Tell me about the role that music plays in your life and why it’s important to you.
Music is the heartblood that pumps into our brains and we would die without it. I really don’t understand those people who say they don’t have a favorite band or song. I feel sorry for them, for they have not experienced a fourth dimensional spiritual experience. Music is magick and you probably need it to live too.
How did you discover Freeform Portland and why did you decide to volunteer with us?
My lovely co-host and partner in crime DropDead and I joined Freeform Portland in August of 2019 right before the start of a new cycle. Freeform Portland was in the Baker Building and we were in an F150. We were met with very open arms at KFFP.
We asked Tony of Musique Plastique about local radio stations and he listed a few, naming Freeform Portland as the most chill. Kiki has been doing radio since 2014 and really loves community radio. “I roped in DropDead after we started dating,” they said. “I think if I didn’t have the wonderful creative outlet I do on the air at Freeform Portland, I would disappear and turn into a ghost. I love casting the dice and stirring the cauldron live on air. Something magickal happens every week, completely unplanned and transcendent.” I can’t do this anywhere else!
Tell me about your show.
HORRORSCOPE is a collection of our favorite records along with strange, obscure, forgotten, avant garde, mysterious, esoteric, exciting and extreme pieces we have run into or been gifted over the years. With the small but eclectic collection DropDead and I have, we collide and combine sounds that cannot be heard anywhere else in the world or this dimension.
Do not be frightened, dive deeper into the hypnotic pull of fear and adrenaline as you slowly become sludge from your ears down to your tail. We will stir in brand new experimental sounds and many local favorites. We are passionate about true artists and want to uplift them. Outsider, queer, scary, dirty, real, ruff, ecstatic, cosmic, heated and heavy. To the stars!

Can you share a favorite musical memory?
We saw WEEN back in 2022 after they had to reschedule because of COVID. Near the end they whipped out my favorite song: Albino Sunburned Girl. I had almost forgotten about this tune, as it was only available in potato quality on youtube until the recent record store day release Ween Europe90. I listened to it many times and played the grainy youtube video on my show in hopes that one day I could hear it in it’s true form. I died and ascended to Andromeda that evening listening to that song.
What is a genre/artist/record that some might be surprised to find in your collection?
What is there to be surprised at? We’re so eclectic! Unless you don’t know we have a kid, in which case the Sesame Street records will be strange…but they have disco remixes!
Tell me about some musical artists that inspire you.
Bardo Pond is a spiritual experience and I want to sound like them. I want to take DropDead’s songs and mix them with Black Lips crunchy rock n roll and soak them in Psycho Jazz like VVolf Eyes. Kiki is greatly inspired by Angel Marcloid and her many sounds and styles. We have taken WEEN’s method of home recording into the noise genre. DropDead and I have used Joey Aggresta’s method of ripping the erase-head out of a lil tape recorder and made many recordings that way. We are greatly inspired by the cut-up method of making art and music discussed and executed by Genesis P-Orridge. Mixing it all together in the cauldron.
Given everything happening in the world today, what’s one song you turn to for comfort or inspiration?
I listen to Kali Yuga Blues by Bardo Pond because we are truly living through a dark age and at least Bardo Pond knows that. I hope more people will realize the true nature of consciousness some day soon, once again.
If you could create your own personal concert, including artists who have passed, who would be some of the headliners and why? OR if you could meet any artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?
I think we could answer both questions with the meeting of Jimi Hendrix and Ol’ Dirty Bastard. The best hang and they would make the best collab.
Why is freeform, community radio important to you? To your community?
Freeform, variety music radio is important because it is inherently anti-fascist and provides a source of underground music to the people. It is made by the community for the community! Not a pre-selected list of approved, socially acceptable and palatable music, which numbs the mind and quiets the soul. The opposite is what is found on community radio. Free-thinking, peer-supporting, art-first, like-minded music magicians.
Tips for aspiring DJs?
YOLO and be confident, do whatever you want but read a room and ride that balance.
